Most of your customers arrive in the dark.

Your analytics calls them Direct. Lantern follows each one back to the Reddit comment, the Google search or the ChatGPT answer that actually sent them, and tells you which of those turned into revenue.

  1. Oct 2: Read your comment on r/SaaS. Clicked through, stayed 40 seconds, left.
  2. Oct 6: Asked ChatGPT for a Plausible alternative. Landed on /pricing. No referrer sent.
  3. Oct 11: Typed your URL from memory. Read the install docs for six minutes.
  4. Oct 14: Paid $49 a month. Lantern credits the r/SaaS comment, 12 days earlier.

And when they're on your site, you can watch.

The live view puts every visitor on a globe, with the page they're reading and the place they came from.

Direct is where your best channel hides.

Someone reads your comment on Reddit, forgets about you, and comes back two weeks later by typing your URL. They pay. Your analytics says they came from nowhere, and you stop writing on Reddit.

Lantern gives every visitor an ID that lasts, so the visit that started it still gets the credit when they finally buy.

ChatGPT is sending you customers. It just doesn't say so.

AI assistants usually strip the referrer, so the people they send look like Direct. Lantern watches both ends: the bots that read your pages, and the visitors who turn up afterwards. Here is one pricing page over two weeks.

Look around the demo dashboard

A note on Monday, instead of another dashboard.

Lantern reads the week's numbers and writes you a few lines: what worked, what broke, what changed. If you live in Claude or ChatGPT, you can ask it questions there too.

From Lantern, Monday Oct 20

Sign-ups up 22%, and /signup broke on iPhone

Morning. Three things from last week.

The r/SaaS thread from Tuesday is still sending people: 212 visits, 6 sign-ups, 2 paid. Worth another reply in the comments.

Since Thursday's deploy, 77% of iPhone visitors leave /signup without finishing. Desktop is fine, so it's probably the new form.

ChatGPT sent 41 visitors, up from 9. Most of them landed on /pricing.

What's lit today, and what we're lighting next.

Lantern is new. We'd rather tell you what's finished than dress a roadmap up as features. Everyone in the beta gets each piece as it ships.

Working today

  • Realtime visitors and the live globe
  • Sources, campaigns, pages, countries and cities
  • AI assistants as their own channel
  • AI crawler tracking by operator
  • Goals, custom events and funnels
  • Visitor IDs that last across days and subdomains

Building next, roughly in this order

  1. 1Revenue from Stripe, Dodo, Lemon Squeezy, Polar and Paddle
  2. 2Customer timelines, from first visit to payment
  3. 3“How did you hear about us?”, matched to real visits
  4. 4Finding AI visits hidden inside Direct
  5. 5The Monday note, and questions from Claude or ChatGPT
  6. 6CSV export and an API for every raw event

Before streetlights, you carried a lantern. It didn't light the whole road, just the next few steps, and that was enough to get home.

That's what this is for. Not another wall of charts, just enough light on the path your customers took that you know which step to take next.

Free while in beta. No card needed.
